Some days we have trouble controlling our thinking and we let our thoughts, emotions and feelings get the best of us. But the good news is, we always have the option to hit the reset button and start afresh each day.
As a kid and even still to this day I like playing video games. I enjoyed games such anything Mario, Zelda, Call of Duty, GTA and many more. What makes video games appealing is you get unlimited lives and times to try and beat the game. Growing up I played a lot of racing games with my brother and friends. There were times when I wasn’t in first place or was in a bad position in the race so I would restart the race so I could have a better chance to win.
Reset to Get a Better Position In Life
You can do the same thing in life. When you feel your thinking starting to shift in the wrong direction, press pause and reset. Reset before a negative thought process starts to take over your day and decision making process. If you take to long to hit the reset button you may miss a special coin or star you need to collect that day. In other words you may miss out on something important you needed to do and get on that day which in the end will take longer to complete the task you needed to complete for that day. No matter what you are during your thinking will always have an affect your day. Every decision and action you take throughout the day starts out as a thought in your mind.
But the thing I love about our relationship with Christ is that He gives us many lives/times just like in a video game to get it right. Whenever you do something wrong or miss the mark you can go to the Father and hit the Reset Button and He will give you a fresh new start.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning
Whenever you’re having a bad day or it feels like you’re losing, step away from everything thing, pause and then hit the Reset Button. When thoughts that are contrary to what you believe start to invade your mind, pause and hit the Reset Button.
Once you hit the reset button, pause for a moment to allow your emotions, thoughts and worries to calm. You may need to cry or scream to get them out. That is what the pause is for, to deal with your emotions. Once you have your emotions under control take a few moments and just Be Still and sit before the Lord. Once you have done those things it’s time to reset and start again.
After Your Reset Know That It’s Possible To Win
Whenever you reset a game it gives you more lives than what you had previously. This encourages the gamer to keep trying to beat the level. Game developers knew it would be impossible to beat a game if the game only gave you a limited number of attempts. So in most games you can always reset, gain more lives, pick up extra health or special items throughout the game. Just as our father in Heaven knew it would be impossible for his children (us) to walk out this life of faith with only a limited amount of His mercy and grace.
As you start to progress in videos games the levels get more difficult and it takes several tries to beat the level. Game developers test games on real people to ensure the levels are not impossible to beat. It is the same with God, He will never allow anything to come your way that is impossible to conqueror, even tho it may feel impossible. Just as a video game provids bonus items God provides us with bonus items in His word. He even gives us the complete walk through and strategy guide. Some video games I’ve played have been so difficult that I had to look up walkthroughs of certain levels and read strategies guides on how to beat the level. But know that God has given you the ultimate strategy guide with all the secrets on how to beat whatever level you are on in life.
As we progress in our walk with Christ we will walk through seasons in life that seem impossible and to difficult to face. I learned this quickly as I walked through a very difficult season in my life with my divorce. As I walked through this season/level of my life I had to remember these key points below.
- God didn’t say that life would be easy (the best video games are never easy to beat)
- God didn’t say that life would always feel good
- God didn’t say that you would always like it (]you may have a favorite video game but I guarantee that there is a level you hate on the game)
- God didn’t say that you would not ever make mistakes (the is way Jesus paid the ultimate price to save us for when all the times we will mess up)
- God didn’t say that things you face in like will pass in a blink of an eye. But be encouraged because He did say that “after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” 1 Peter 5:10
Here’s What God Did Say
God said that the challenges you face in life are POSSIBLE. When it feels impossible that’s when He sends his strength to make you stronger.
After trying to beat a level numerous amounts of times the gives you hints or special items to complete the level. God is the same way. God has gives us special tools to help make it past the various levels we face in life. A few of His tools include:
- His strength that is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
- The Holy Spirit (John 14:16)
- The Armor of God, especially the Helmet of salvation which we can put on to block out every negative thought that tries to enter our mind (Ephesians 6:10-18)
- All the promises in His word
Scriptures For Your Arsenal

The Reset Button is new mercies each day from God. He gives us another opportunity each day we wake up to try and get it right. Yes we have to rest often because we are not perfect. Thank God for allowing us to Reset as many times as we need.
